On 8 July 2025, the Minister of Health, Sílvia Paula Valentim Lutucuta, accompanied by the Provincial Governor of Huíla, Nuno Bernabé Mahapi Dala, visited the construction site of the future Huíla Mother and Child Hospital, located in the Eiva area, in Lubango.
The hospital is being built on a 29,489 m² site, spread over six floors, and will have a capacity of 200 beds. It is planned to offer highly complex services such as maternity, neonatology, intensive care, operating theatres, outpatient clinics, imaging, endoscopy, physiotherapy, clinical laboratory, haemodialysis, as well as administrative and support areas, and a car park with 386 spaces.
The Minister expressed her satisfaction with the progress of the works, while noting that the pace could be faster due to financial constraints, which are currently being resolved. Completion of the infrastructure is scheduled for the first half of 2026, along with the reinforcement of human resources to ensure the full operation of the facility.
This project is part of a national policy to decentralise healthcare, aiming to significantly improve the quality of hospital services provided to communities, particularly women and children in the southern region of the country.
